Victoria, BC – Officers, along with the Victoria Fire Department, have responded a potential hazardous materials incident at a multi-unit building in the 400-block of Chester Avenue.

Officers with both Patrol and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team attended the building earlier this afternoon as they worked to locate a suspect in an aggravated assault investigation. Upon entering the unit, officers discovered a potential hazardous materials incident. Out of an abundance of caution, officers evacuated potentially impacted units and called for the assistance of Victoria Fire Department firefighters. Roads in the area were closed to traffic and a safety perimeter was established.

Teams remain on scene to evaluate and work to mitigate any risk to the public.

Roads remain closed in the area at this time.
