Victoria, BC – VicPD is proud to release the results of our 2024 Community Survey.
Drawn from the responses of 946 participants who live or work in Victoria and Esquimalt, the statistically significant 2024 VicPD Community Survey captures the impressions, concerns and opinions of the public we serve on topics ranging from crime severity to overall satisfaction.
Full Survey Results Are Available On The VicPD Website
“The VicPD Community Survey helps us ensure that our priorities are in line with those of the residents and businesses of Victoria and Esquimalt. It’s an important insight into how our citizens are thinking and feeling about their community, their sense of safety, and our work,” Chief Constable Del Manak said. “Thank you to everyone who was able to participate; taking the time to do the survey helps us understand how perspectives change year over year and allows us to respond to our communities’ needs and improve our service.”
Overall, the results of the 2024 survey closely reflect the results we received in 2022, and there were few significant changes within the margin of error from last year. However, significant changes were identified in which areas citizens would like to see VicPD pay attention to. It should be noted the survey was conducted prior to the Provincial Government announcing plans to recriminalize the use of drugs in public spaces. This is reflected in the comments and data received from respondents, as “Open Drug Use” was the number one issue in both Victoria and Esquimalt, with almost one third of all respondents in Victoria selecting that as their top issue of concern.
As in previous years, all the survey results and associated materials are posted on the OpenVicPD portal on our website.
The 2024 Community Survey is part of our continued annual survey cycle, which allows us to better track trends and the needs of our community in alignment with our Strategic Plan. We also display key community survey results in our VicPD Community Dashboard and our quarterly Community Safety Report Cards, all of which can be viewed at our OpenVicPD information hub.
We always welcome your feedback and will be glad to receive any questions or comments you may have about our community survey by email at [email protected].
