Victoria, B.C. – Investigators are requesting assistance in identifying a young female who bear sprayed a male on the Johnson Street Bridge during the evening of October 5.
Just after 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, Victoria Police responded to a report of a male who had been bear sprayed near Johnson Street and Wharf Street. One witness told police he saw a group of what appeared to be youths bear spray the victim before running away. The victim, who suffered the effects of the bear spray, received minor injuries. Officers conducted a search for the suspects, but due to limited descriptions, were unable to make an arrest.
CCTV footage obtained shows a group of what appears to be youths walking eastbound on the bridge, with the male victim walking through the group. Moments later, a young female is seen taking a can of bear spray and spraying the male victim in the face. Immediately following the incident, the group departed westbound on the bridge.
CCTV also captured some of the youths filming the incident on their cell phones prior to departing westbound.
