Victoria, B.C. – The Victoria Police Department is proud to announce the appointment of Michael Brown as Deputy Chief Constable.

"Deputy Chief Brown has shown exceptional dedication and commitment to both our department and the communities we serve. His career reflects the values we stand for, and he has made a valued contribution to the community in Esquimalt. I am confident that he will take that same success in leadership through to the rest of the Department," said VicPD Chief Del Manak.

New VicPD Deputy Chief Constable Michael Brown

Deputy Chief Brown is a third-generation police officer with a distinguished career in policing. He has served 30 years with the Victoria Police Department, rising through the ranks from Patrol constable to pivotal leadership roles. His extensive career includes tours in Patrol, Strike Force, Professional Standards, and Community Services. The majority of his career has been served with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team as a Tactical Officer, Team Leader, Critical Incident Commander, and Officer in Charge. Most recently, he was the Officer in Charge of the Esquimalt Division, returning to serve the community where he grew up, with deep familial ties to Esquimalt’s policing history. Deputy Chief Brown is widely respected for his operational expertise, integrity, and commitment to community engagement.

I am also committed to providing the community with outstanding service, and taking care of our team means they will be able to deliver that service."

VicPD Chief Del Manak presented Deputy Chief Michael Brown with a commemorative promotion plaque on July 9, 2025. His promotion was effective June 1, 2025.

Deputy Chief Brown has been appointed for a one-year term. In his new role, he will lead the Administration Division, including Human Resources, Information Risk Management, Financial Services, Executive and Legal Services, and Community Engagement, while Deputy Chief Jamie McRae continues to lead Operations. Both Deputy Chiefs report directly to VicPD Chief Del Manak. 

Deputy Chief Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Victoria and lives within the VicPD jurisdiction with his wife and children.
