Victoria, B.C. – Traffic disruptions, temporary CCTV cameras, and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) will be deployed to ensure public safety and maintain traffic flow during the Royal Victoria Marathon this weekend. Expect major traffic disruptions due to planned road closures in and around downtown, Victoria’s Inner Harbour, James Bay, Beacon Hill Park, Fairfield, Oak Bay, Uplands, and along Dallas Road for this weekend’s Royal Victoria Marathon.
Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians will not be able to cross the downtown race route between approximately 7:55 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 12. Expect runners and walkers along the race route from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Familiarize yourself with the race route and expect to encounter road closures if entering or leaving the downtown area on Sunday. Allow yourself extra time to reach your destination, especially if you are travelling to the airport, BC Ferries, or the Blackball Coho or Clipper Ferries.

There will also be road closures near the BC Legislature on Saturday and Sunday for race setup and activities.
VicPD officers, race organizers, and traffic control personnel will be working together to minimize the impact of road closures and traffic disruptions and to keep participants and spectators safe.
Temporary CCTV Cameras and RPAS Deployment
The deployment of CCTV cameras and the RPAS is an integral part of VicPD’s efforts to support community safety and is in accordance with BC and national privacy legislation. Temporary signs indicating CCTV camera presence will be displayed in event areas to inform the community, and the cameras will be removed once the events have concluded. The RPAS camera does not record by default. If recordings are needed to gather evidence, or capture an incident, the public will be notified, and that data will be stored for 30 days or longer. No information will be collected during the event unless a criminal investigation or public disorder incident occurs. If you have concerns about our temporary camera deployment, please email [email protected].
