FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Victoria, B.C. – The Esquimalt Celebration of Lights is back this year, and we are looking forward to joining the community for this much-loved tradition. To help ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for everyone, VicPD will be deploying officers, temporary CCTV, and RPAS as part of our standard public-safety measures for large community events.
Please be advised that a short parade route will be in place Sunday December 7 to celebrate the Esquimalt Celebration of Lights, running from Admirals Road east along Esquimalt Road to the Archie Browning Arena.
To support the event and ensure everyone’s safety, Esquimalt Road (1100–1400 blocks) will be fully closed to traffic from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Drivers will need to use alternate routes during this time. Lyall Street will remain open for local access.
Temporary, Monitored CCTV Cameras, and RPAS Deployed
We will be deploying our temporary, monitored CCTV cameras and RPAS in support of our operations to ensure public safety and help maintain traffic flow. The deployment of these cameras is part of our operations to support community safety and is in keeping with both provincial and federal privacy laws. Temporary signs are up in the area to ensure that the community is aware.
