Victoria, BC – Temporary CCTV cameras are being deployed as officers respond to planned protests at the B.C. Legislature on Monday, October 3rd, 2022.
Officers with the Greater Victoria Public Safety Unit (PSU), along with VicPD officers and staff from various sections, are responding to reports of protests planned at the B.C. Legislature Monday.
As with previous events, we will be deploying our temporary, monitored CCTV cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety during the protests. The deployment of these cameras is part of our operations to help keep Monday’s events safe and peaceful and is in keeping with both provincial and federal privacy laws. Temporary signs are up in the area to ensure that the public is aware. The cameras will be taken down once the events have concluded. If you’ve concerns about our temporary camera deployment, please email [email protected].
Remember that drones are not permitted in the downtown core. The Inner Harbour is an active flight zone for float planes and helicopters. Drones are strictly prohibited under Transport Canada rules.
VicPD supports everyone’s right to safe, peaceful and lawful protest. Dangerous or unlawful activity will be met with de-escalation and enforcement.
