Victoria, B.C. – VicPD arrested a suspect following a series of break-ins in Victoria and a separate incident in Oak Bay; police believe the incidents are connected.
On October 20, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a resident of the 200 block of Beechwood Avenue reported a break-in to their garage and an attempted break and enter into their home. The suspect reportedly used a heavy mallet or hammer. The suspect fled on foot before the police arrived. Investigators have been unable to locate the tool and are asking residents in the vicinity of Beechwood Avenue to check their yards for any unfamiliar items, as the suspect likely discarded it while fleeing. If found, residents are asked not to touch the item and call the non-emergency line.
About an hour later, police received a report of a break-in in progress at a home in the 300 block of St. Charles Street. The resident reported a confrontation with a male they founding exiting their home with jewelry and other personal items. Significant police resources flooded the area and contained several blocks until the suspect was located by officers. The suspect was subsequently arrested without further incident.
After the arrest, a resident of the 1700 block of Lillian Road contacted police to report a break-in at their residence and the theft of their jewelry and other personal items. The arrested suspect was found in possession of the stolen items from the Lillian Road location, which have been returned to the homeowner. Police believe this suspect may be connected to other break-ins that occurred earlier that day, including a residence in the 2000 block of Carrick Street currently being investigated by Oak Bay Police.
