Victoria, BC – Patrol officers from our “D” Watch are already seeing successes in a project that they’ve launched which aims to return stolen bicycles to their owners. In the first 24 hours of the project, which began on January 21st, 2019, five stolen bicycles were returned to their rightful owners while a number of suspected stolen bicycles have been seized pending additional investigation.

Since the launch of the project, several additional recovered stolen bicycles have been returned.

The recovered suspected stolen bicycles are being posted daily to the local Victoria Stolen Bicycle Avengers Facebook Page. Officers believe that some bicycles have been recovered without their rightful owners knowing that they are missing. If you store your bicycle in a storage locker, officers are asking you to check on it.

The large number of bicycles seized and large numbers of bicycles reported stolen underscores the need for projects like this. VicPD launched our Bike Registry to help combat rising numbers of stolen bicycle reports and low returns of seized bicycles.  You can learn more about our bike registry and download your registration form today by visiting vicpd.ca/bike.
