Victoria, BC – Harold Backer, the subject of a 2015 missing person release, has been located and is safe.
The search for 52-year-old Harold Backer began on November 3, 2015 when he failed to return home, after telling his family that he was going for a bicycle ride. Shortly after his disappearance, Financial crime investigators initiated an investigation into My Financial Backer Corporation and Harold Backer after his investors received concerning letters.
We would like to thank the citizens of Victoria and Esquimalt as well as the members of the media who assisted by sharing information in an attempt to locate Harold Backer.
Harold came into the Victoria Police Headquarters yesterday afternoon and was held in custody overnight. He has since gone before a Telebail hearing and is facing two counts of Fraud over $5000. Harold remains in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18th.
Financial and Major Crime Detectives will continue working on the file over the weekend.
As the matter is before the courts, we will not be releasing any other details.
