Update: The boy and his parents have been identified. The boy is safe and we have concluded our investigation.

Original Release:

Victoria BC – VicPD Patrol officers are looking to identify a boy, or speak with his parents after he ran away yesterday afternoon.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m. yesterday, patrol officers attended the 3100-block of Douglas Street after a person called in concerned about the welfare of a child. When officers arrived, they spoke with the complainant who stated that he saw a boy, approximately 8 years-old, in the food court eating alone. When the complainant went up to ask if the boy was ok, the boy ran away southbound through the Mayfair Mall parking lot. The boy was wearing black pants with stripes down the side, a puffy grey jacket, a blue t-shirt and was carrying a black Thrifty Foods bag.

Police reviewed surveillance footage and could not locate any parent or guardian with the child during his time in the mall.  While there have been no missing children matching this description reported to us,  out of an abundance of caution, police are requesting the assistance of the public to identify the boy (picture attached) and his parents.

If you know who this boy is or who his parents are, please call our non-emergency number at 250-995-7654.
