At our main headquarters we accept cash, debit, Visa and Mastercard. We do not accept personal cheques. At our Esquimalt Division office payment is cash only at this time.

Q: If I am the subject of a current internal investigation can I still apply?

No. We will not process your application until you have resolved all internal investigations you are currently involved in.

Q: Does my seniority carry over to your department?

No. However, if you are a currently serving member of a Canadian Police Department, you may be eligible to receive recognition for past years of service for annual leave allotment and level of pay with the Victoria Police Department. Please see the exempt process on the website for information on the increment pay system.

Q: How long do I have to wait before applying for promotion?

At present, all police members must have at least 9 yrs experience with a recognized Canadian Police service, and 4 yrs with the Victoria Police Department before being eligible for promotion.

Q: I am a student with a temporary address in Victoria, can I get my check done here?

Yes. There may be delays in processing time however if we need to contact your home police agency and it is outside of BC.

Q: I previously had a Police Information Check, do I need to pay for another one?

Yes. Each time you are required to have one you will have to start the process again. We do not keep copies of previous checks.

Q: Is there a student rate for Police Information Checks?

No. You must pay the $70 fee. You may be able to submit the receipt with your income tax return if the check is a requirement for your schooling. Additionally – practicum placements are not volunteer positions as you will receive education credits – you will need to pay to have your police record check done.
