Victoria, BC – A Victoria man is in custody after an armed standoff last night.

Officers were called to a multi-unit residence in the 200-block of Gorge Road East just before 9 p.m. last night for a call of a man with a gun. Initial reports indicated the man had threatened to harm others at the residence. When officers arrived, the man barricaded himself in a unit there.

Other residents of the multi-unit residence were evacuated, and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) and negotiators were called out. Traffic in the area was blocked off and the area cordoned off for safety. GVERT and the negotiators worked to resolve the situation for the next several hours.

Around 1:30 a.m. the man surrendered to officers and was taken into custody without further incident. No one was injured. A firearm was seized at the scene.

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Cunningham was held for morning court.
