Victoria, BC – VicPD has published and presented the 2023 Q3 Community Safety Report Cards (CSRC) for Victoria and Esquimalt.
This morning, Chief Del Manak presented the 2023 Q3 CSRC to Victoria City Council, wrapping up the Q3 reporting period. The 2023 Q3 CSRC for Esquimalt was presented on November 20.
Both reports can be accessed on Open VicPD, the one-stop hub for information about the Victoria Police Department.
Highlighted this quarter were the overtime costs and time loss in shifts reports for 2022, which underscore our need to hire both new and experienced officers to fill the ongoing demand for additional shifts to provide community safety during events and demonstrations, and to backfill for officers away from work. VicPD has a goal of hiring 24 new officers in 2024.
In addition to our recruiting efforts, VicPD is committed to supporting current officers and staff, and has recently invested in several health and wellness initiatives including an in-house psychologist, reintegration officer, and operational stress intervention dog.
Of particular interest to Victoria residents, bike thefts are down significantly this year, and overall down almost 50% since 2015. View the data on bike thefts in the Victoria Community Information, under the Operational Update tab.
The report cards also provide a summary of notable files, crime prevention efforts and community engagement activities in the City and Township from July 1 to September 30, 2023.
