Victoria, B.C. – Road closures and significant traffic disruptions expected for downtown Victoria on Saturday, November 30th, for the 42nd Peninsula Co-op Santa Claus Parade.   

There will be several major road closures during the event, which include:  

  • Belleville Street, between Douglas Street and Menzies Street, will be closed from approximately 3:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.  
  • Menzies Street, between Belleville Street and Superior Street, will be closed from approximately 3:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.   
  • Government Street, between Humboldt Street and Superior Street, will be closed from approximately 3:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.  
  • Wharf Street, between Johnson Street and Government Street will be open to local traffic only from approximately 4:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. 
  • Humboldt Street, between Government Street and Douglas Street, will be closed from approximately 4:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.  
  • Douglas Street, between Belleville Street and Bay Street, will be closed from approximately 4:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.

During the closures, vehicle traffic will be unable to cross Douglas Street from Belleville Street to Bay Street.  

Significant traffic delays and disruptions are expected to occur in downtown Victoria during the parade and attendees should plan to arrive early. To minimize gridlock, we are encouraging eastbound vehicle traffic to avoid the Johnston Street bridge and travel via the Bay Street bridge instead.  

Our officers, volunteers and Reserve Constables will be present to help keep everyone attending the event safe. Attendees can also keep an eye out for our Community Rover and Car 40, which will both be in the parade alongside our team. Temporary, monitored CCTV Cameras deployed  

As with previous events, we will be deploying our temporary, monitored CCTV cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety and help maintain traffic flow. The deployment of these cameras is part of our operations to help keep the event safe, peaceful and family-friendly and is in keeping with both provincial and federal privacy laws. Temporary signs are up in the area to ensure that the public is aware. The cameras will be taken down once the events have concluded.
