Date: Tuesday, June 17, 2014Listen: VicPD Amends K9 Operational ProtocolVictoria, BC –  Based on an ongoing review of VicPD K9 operations and historic deployment patterns, the deployment of VicPD K9 units will be limited to Victoria, Esquimalt and, if requested, Saanich.  However, we will still continue to deploy outside of these jurisdictions when our units could be instrumental in preserving human life.   The inclusion of Saanich in the K9 deployment area is a reflection of the long-standing reciprocal relationship between K9 units of VicPD and the Saanich Police Department.  Police resources, including K9 units, often cross these municipal boundaries and it was deemed logical to continue this practice. “The purpose of this directive is to ensure we have the resources necessary to serve the citizens of Victoria and Esquimalt,” said Chief Constable Frank Elsner.  “This operational protocol ensures that we have adequate K9 coverage at all times at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayers of Victoria and Esquimalt.”   www.vicpd.ca
