Victoria, BC – On Tuesday, VicPD’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), with help from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) and the Saanich Police Department, arrested a 22-year-old Esquimalt man after a drug and weapons investigation.

Officers attended the 700-block of Rogers Avenue in Saanich to execute a search warrant at a basement suite in a residence. Police entered the residence and located three handguns, ammunition and evidence consistent with drug trafficking. Through the course of that search, police were able to locate one kilogram of cocaine and half a kilogram of methamphetamine.

The male was arrested on an outstanding warrant and is now facing additional charges.

This male was also the subject of another search warrant in August 2015.  VicPD’s CRU and Strike Force sections, with help from the Greater Victoria Response Team, executed a search warrant on his residence in the 2900-block of Quadra Street. Investigators located a significant amount of cash, one kilogram of methamphetamine and half a kilogram of cocaine.

“It is concerning to us when people are engaging in this type of criminal behaviour in our communities,” said Iain Campbell, Sergeant of VicPD’s Crime Reduction Unit. “We’re very glad to have these drugs and guns off our streets.”

The approximate street value for these drugs are: one kilogram of cocaine is $50,000 and one kilogram of methamphetamine is $25,000
