Victoria, BC – The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU), with the assistance of VicPD investigators and the Westshore RCMP, made an arrest in a 2015 homicide yesterday.
On September 16th, 2015, VicPD patrol members were called to a residence just before 6 a.m. to check on the welfare of the persons there. They discovered an 18-month-old Victoria girl, who succumbed despite efforts to resuscitate her. The girl’s mother was also taken to hospital.
Crown has approved a charge of first degree murder against the mother. Due to a publication ban, no further details or information will be released.
Our continued thoughts are with the young girl’s loved ones and all those affected by her death.
To clarify: The mother’s name is not subject to the publication ban. To protect the identity of the parties involved, including the 18-month-old child, we will not be releasing the names of those involved. The bail hearing, however, is subject to the publication ban.
