Victoria  BC – A suspect in a series of break and enters to underground parking garages is in custody today after an alert citizen spotted him in the act.

Officers were called to a multi-unit residential building in the 100-block of Kimta Road just before 3 a.m. this morning. A building resident spotted the suspect as he gained access to the underground parking area. Having been alerted to the rash of underground parking thefts and the suspect’s description by an earlier VicPD public notification, the resident called police immediately.

Responding officers performed a thorough search of the underground parking area but were, initially, unable to locate the suspect. A VicPD K9 team then searched and located the suspect who had locked himself in the trunk of a vehicle in the underground parking area. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Numerous tips have come in since our initial public notification that have tied the suspect to series of break and enters throughout Victoria.
