One man is in custody after a three and a half hour crime spree throughout the city.

The first incident occurred just after 8:30 p.m. on March 17th in the 1200-block of Douglas Street. Police were called after a BC Transit bus driver was assaulted by a lone man who had boarded the bus. Police quickly attended but were unable to locate the suspect.  Police were then called to the area of Government and Courtney Street just after 9:30 p.m.  A driver of a security vehicle reported that a man jumped in front of his vehicle and attempted to grab the keys to the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle successfully wrestled the keys away from the man and was able to exit the vehicle. The suspect then fled the area.

About 25 minutes later at 9:56 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Douglas and Yates streets after a man climbed thought the driver’s window of a BC Transit bus and climbed on top of the driver attempting to take control of the bus. When the man climbed through the window, he inadvertently turned off the bus so was unable to drive away. Thankfully, three passengers on the bus came to the driver’s aid and removed the man off the bus.  The lone man then fled the area.

At 10:30 p.m. police were then called to the 700-block of Johnson Street after a man attempted to steal a vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle were able to fend off the man who again fled from the area.

Finally, at 11:55 p.m. police were called to 200-block of Kingston Street after the report of a man banging on the front door of a house. While police were en route, the man began to forcibly kick the door attempting to enter the residence. The man was arrested and after further investigation by the attending uniform police officers and Major Crime Detectives, police were able to confirm that he was responsible for the 4 incidents. The man refused to identify himself but police were able to take fingerprints to successfully confirm his identity.

VicPD Major Crime Detectives are recommending six charges including assault, attempted robbery (x2), attempted theft over $5000, mischief, and obstruct police.

David Levasseur, a 37-year old man, remains in custody.
