It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of retired Police Service Dog Max. Max passed away last night in the presence of his handler Sgt. Mike Chicorelli and family. Max was 13 years old.

Max served VicPD with distinction for over 12 years. Max started his career in 2005 as an explosive detection dog and retired in January of 2017. During his career, Max conducted searches for many VIP visits, public events and bomb threat complaints. Max also served at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Max was known as one of the best at his job. He was well recognized in the only two competitions he participated in during his career. In 2009, Max won three gold medals and a bronze medal at the World Police and Fire Games in New York. In 2011, Max won a gold medal and bronze medal at the Canadian Police Championship.

Max will be remembered for his wonderful personality and his ability to connect with everyone he met.

Max will be particularly missed by Sgt Chicorelli and his family, the VicPD K9 Section, and Max’s longtime partner, PSD Cruise.

Rest in peace, Max. You deserve it.
