Victoria BC –VicPD is saddened to announce the passing of Constable Ian Jordan last night.

Cst. Jordan was involved in an on-duty motor vehicle accident in 1987, which resulted in injuries that left him in a coma until his death last night.

Cst. Jordan sustained his injuries in the early morning hours of September 22, 1987, while responding to a potential break and enter in progress on Fort Street.  As VicPD members raced to the scene, Cst. Jordan’s vehicle collided with another VicPD car at the intersection of Douglas and Fisgard streets.

As tragic as this incident was, its enduring legacy was the establishment of a “trauma team,” which was the forerunner of our Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team.  This team is now an essential component of how VicPD assists its officers and staff after traumatic incidents of all kinds.

VicPD would like to offer our sincere condolences to Cst. Jordan’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.

A funeral with full police honours is planned and details will be announced once known.
