Victoria BC – Are you interested in working in our communication centre? If so, we want to hear from you.

Our communication centre, the hub of all the emergency and non-emergency calls, currently employs over 30 call takers and dispatchers. These men and women are required to think on their feet, connect with the public, analyze emergent situations and dispatch the appropriate resources.

The job of call takers and police dispatchers is exciting, demanding, and rewarding.  Some of the calls that these men and women are exposed to are challenging, but seeing a situation come to a successful conclusion makes it all worthwhile.

Many people ask what a typical day looks like in the communication centre. One of the best things about the job, is that there is no typical day. One minute you could be dealing with a homeowner whose house has been broken into and the next you could be getting a description of a suspect fleeing from a serious assault.

Prerequisites include a grade 12 diploma and a minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute. Ideally, course in public safety, emergency services or criminology are an asset. Experienced dispatchers are also encouraged to apply.

Please read the full details and prerequisites on our webpage at https://vicpd.ca/911-comm-centre-qualifications

All candidates must first apply to our Human Resources Department at [email protected]
