Victoria, BC – An investigation is underway after an incident on Pandora Avenue yesterday that saw one person sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Patrol officers were called to the 700-block of Pandora Avenue just after 6 p.m. yesterday for a report of an armed person causing a disturbance. When Patrol officers arrived the person barricaded themselves in a suite in the multi-unit residential building. The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) was deployed to the scene. As the GVERT officers were deploying, smoke was observed coming from the suite. The Victoria Fire Department attended to extinguish the fire while GVERT officers made emergency entry to the suite. The suspect was taken into custody in life-threatening condition and transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics. They remain in life-threatening condition at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) was notified and has exerted jurisdiction. As is standard practice, further inquiry is best directed to the IIO.
