Victoria, BC – A Victoria man has been taken into custody and transported to hospital after a barricade incident in Victoria’s Vic West neighbourhood last night.

Just after 6 p.m., Patrol officers were called to assist Saanich Police Department officers as they worked to locate a man in crisis. Their search led them to a multi-unit residential building the 00-block of Saghalie Road where they discovered the man.

During the course of the officers’ interactions with the man, he made concerning statements and took actions which created the potential for injury to nearby residents, officers and himself. Building residents were evacuated and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), including Crisis Negotiators, were deployed.

Risks of harm to the man, officers and those in the area was reduced through assistance from the Victoria Fire Department, Fortis BC, building managers, E-Comm dispatchers and call-takers and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

After several hours of negotiations, the man was taken into custody. He was not injured, but was transported to hospital, where he remains.

The investigation into this file remains ongoing. No charges have been laid.
