Man Arrested After Spree Including Alleged Theft, Assault, Break and Enter

Victoria, BC – An Edmonton man faces recommended charges after an alleged spree that included a theft, assault and a break and enter.

Patrol officers were first called to a restaurant in the 1100-block of Douglas Street just after 10 p.m. last night for a report of a theft and assault. Staff reported that a man had attended the restaurant and left after refusing to pay his bill. The man returned a short time later. When a staff member threatened to call the police if the man did not pay his outstanding bill and took out his mobile phone, the man assaulted the staff member and fled. The staff member reported not being physically injured in the assault. Patrol officers began to search for the suspect.

While Patrol officers were searching for the suspect, a VicPD K9 officer responded to a call for a break and enter at a hotel in the 1200-block of Wharf Street. The caller reported that a man had thrown an object through a front window and was now inside the lobby area. The VicPD K9 officer arrived and spotted the suspect attempting to gain access to the hotel’s office area.

The suspect spotted the officer and attempted to flee on foot. He was apprehended after a brief foot chase and taken into custody without further incident. Officers were then able to tie him to the first incident.

The suspect was held in cells and then later released on conditions.

This investigation remains ongoing.
