Victoria, BC – A man is safely in hospital after an intervention by VicPD officers this morning.
VicPD officers were called to the 1200-block of Dallas Road just before 3:45 a.m. this morning by a man in crisis. The man reported that he was in his vehicle, and had armed himself against others who were also in his vehicle and were attempting to harm him. When officers arrived, they observed the man was alone in the vehicle, armed with a knife, and in crisis. Officers used their vehicles to contain the man’s vehicle and began to work to resolve the incident peacefully. Nearby roads were closed to traffic.
Officers used crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to work with the man in an effort to have him to put the knife down and exit the vehicle. At various points over the next two hours, the man began to damage his vehicle, stabbing seats and at one point breaking a window and causing himself non-life-threatening injuries.
Just after 5:30 a.m. the man disarmed himself and exited the vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to hospital.
