Victoria, BC – Detectives with VicPD’s Investigative Services Division (ISD) arrested a man yesterday in connection to two suspicious fires, including a large fire in June that caused extensive damage to a local business.

At approximately 10 p.m. on June 7th, Patrol officers were called to the 700-block of Topaz Avenue for a report of a suspicious fire at a storage and vehicle rental business. Two storage units and two vehicles were destroyed in the fire. There were no injuries.

ISD detectives continued the investigation and identified a suspect. At approximately 10 a.m. on August 4th, detectives arrested a man in connection to this incident at a multi-unit temporary housing facility in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street and executed a search warrant.

The man was also arrested in connection to a second incident. At approximately 12:15 a.m. on June 7th, two fires were started in a business parking lot in the 600-block of Hillside Avenue. The fires were in close proximity to a building and vehicles. There were no injuries and no damage to property in this incident. 

The man was transported to cells and detectives are recommending two counts of arson.

These files remain under investigation.
