Victoria, BC – Detectives with VicPD’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating after two men were injured in assaults with weapons that followed a confrontation in Centennial Square last night. One of the victims received life-threatening injuries.

At 9:15 p.m. on August 9th, Patrol officers were called to the intersection of Government and Fisgard Streets for a report that someone had been injured in a stabbing following a confrontation in Centennial Square. Patrol officers attended and provided medical aid to a man suffering non-life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

Five minutes later, at 9:20 p.m., Patrol officers were called to the scene of a second reported stabbing in the 2000-block of Douglas Street, related to the original confrontation. Patrol officers attended and provided medical aid to a man suffering life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

Both men remain in hospital.

These two incidents are believed to be related. Both remain under investigation. At this time, investigators do not believe there is a risk to the wider public.
