Victoria, BC – A man is in custody as officers investigate a report of a sexual assault which occurred on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail, near Tyee and Harbour roads last night.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. last night, Patrol and VicPD K9 officers responded to a report that a man had attacked and sexually assaulted a woman on the Galloping Goose Trail. The woman reported that she was able to fight the man off and called 911. She provided a description of the suspect and officers flooded the area in response.

Responding officers spotted the suspect and a foot chase ensued. The suspect briefly eluded officers and a perimeter was set up for a search by VicPD K9. The suspect was located and taken into custody by the K9 team and patrol officers. During the arrest, the suspect received non-life-threatening injuries from the K9. The suspect declined medical aid. He was transported to cells.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the attack.

This file remains under active investigation. The suspect remains in custody.
