Victoria, BC – A man was taken into custody after an assault and criminal barricade last night.

Patrol officers were called to a multi-unit residential building in the 1000-block of Esquimalt Road just before 7 p.m. for a report that a person had been assaulted. When officers arrived, they located the victim suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was treated and transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics. Officers learned that the suspect was in a unit in the building and moved to arrest him. At that time the suspect refused to leave the unit and began barricading himself inside.

The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team along with their Crisis Negotiators responded, as well as additional officers, including VicPD K9. Just before 10 p.m., negotiations were successful and the man was taken into custody. He was held for morning court.
