Victoria, BC – Officers have successfully located a man who was last seen in distress in the Inner Harbour late this afternoon. The man is alive and suffering what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries from cold exposure.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. Patrol officers were called to a report of a person in distress in the water on the south side of the Johnson Street bridge. Multiple officers attended and began to search but the person was not located. The search efforts included an officer entering the water and searching underneath nearby docks. In addition, the search included a number of partner agencies, including Victoria Fire Department, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Coast Guard, and the Saanich Police Dive Team.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. the man surfaced from the water and was brought to a dock by officers. Officers confirmed the man’s identity as the same person last seen in distress in the water late this afternoon.

The man was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

This file remains under investigation.
