Victoria, BC – Officers with VicPD’s Investigation and Support Unit (ISU) are warning the public after two similar “smash and grab” break and enters to downtown businesses over the weekend.

On the morning of Saturday, December 12th, ISU officers received a report of a break and enter to a business in the 900-block of Gordon Street. Sometime overnight a suspect had smashed a glass door, gained entry into the business, and stole several hundred dollars from the register. There was no indication that an alarm was triggered and the incident was not captured by video surveillance.

On the morning of Sunday, December 13th, ISU officers received a similar report of a break and enter to a business in the 900-block of Fort Street. Earlier that morning, the suspect had broken the glass on the front door of the business, gained entry, and stole the cash float. The incident triggered an alarm, which is believed to have occurred at approximately 6 a.m. The incident was not captured by video surveillance.

Officers are reminding business owners to never leave cash in registers overnight, turn on security alarms, and ensure video surveillance captures the front door to the business.

These files remain under investigation.
