File: 20-51139

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man at gunpoint yesterday after reports that he was chasing another man, while wielding a knife.

Patrol officers were called to the intersection of Blanshard and Johnson streets at approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday after several witnesses called to report that a man wielding a knife was chasing another man on a bicycle through traffic. Patrol officers arrived and located the suspect, who was armed with a knife. Patrol officers drew their service weapons and displayed a conductive energy weapon (CEW) as the man did not initially comply with their directions to put the knife down. He was arrested at gunpoint without further incident.

One of the responding Patrol officers recognized the suspect as the same man he had arrested for mischief earlier in the morning following a brief foot chase. The man had been released on an undertaking in that file.

The suspect was held for telebail, facing recommended charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and for breaching conditions not to possess knives.

If you have information about this incident and have not yet spoken to officers, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654, extension 1.
