Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man late Saturday night after a report of a violent incident in a tent in Beacon Hill Park which included an assault and an assault with a weapon. While investigating this report, officers arrested a second man within the park who was wanted on an unrelated warrant for breach of probation in relation to a robbery file from Port Alberni.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 6th, a woman called police to report that she had been the victim of a violent incident in a tent in Beacon Hill Park. The woman reported that a man threatened her with a firearm and assaulted her inside a tent at that location before she was able to escape and call police.

Several Patrol officers attended Beacon Hill Park and worked to locate the accused in the investigation. BC Emergency Health Services paramedics treated the victim at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers located the suspect’s tent and took him into custody without incident. The man was arrested for assault by choking and assault with a weapon. A firearm was not recovered from the scene.

Officers transported the man to cells at VicPD where he was later released with a court date and conditions.

In the course of the investigation officers arrested an additional man, unrelated to the original report, who was the subject of a warrant for breach of probation related to a robbery file from Port Alberni. This man was also transported to cells at VicPD where he was held to await court.
