Victoria, BC – Patrol officers dug out a senior who was trapped in a tent during this past weekend’s snow storms and connected him with a safe environment and resources.

Just after 10 a.m. on Sunday, February 14th, officers were called to the yard of a Fernwood neighbourhood home after a concerned person called police. An elderly man had been living in a tent in the yard for the past year – in an arrangement with the homeowner. The person had noted that the heavy snowfall had collapsed the tent and called 911.

When officers arrived they discovered the man, who is in his eighties, unharmed, but trapped inside. Officers dug him out and confirmed he was not hurt.

The man indicated that he was happy with his unorthodox living arrangement, and officers spent an extended period of time with him to ensure that he was in an safe environment and had the necessary resources for the weather.
