Victoria, BC – A man is in hospital and being treated for injuries after an officer-involved shooting this morning.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m. Patrol officers were at Royal Jubilee Hospital for an unrelated call for service when they were alerted to a man at the hospital with a weapon. Officers encountered the man with a weapon and deployed a less-lethal conductive energy weapon. In the course of the incident an officer shot the man.
The man remains in hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The officers were not physically injured in the incident.
Detectives with VicPD’s Major Crime Unit (MCU) are investigating the incident.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has been notified and will be conducting an independent investigation.
