Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man after he randomly assaulted two women in separate incidents on Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, March 19th Patrol officers were called to the area of Johnson and Wharf streets for a report that a man approached a woman and punched her without provocation. Several bystanders followed the suspect and detained him until officers arrived. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the assault.

Officers attended and arrested the man for assault. Officers transported the man to VicPD cells where he was held to await court. At cells, the suspect assaulted a police officer. The officer was not physically injured in the assault.

During the investigation, officers learned of a second random assault involving the same suspect which had occurred shortly before the initial call. The suspect was reported to have approached a pregnant woman in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue and punched her without provocation. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In addition, officers learned that the man was in breach of a conditional sentence order stemming from a conviction for assault causing bodily harm after a random, unprovoked assault on a woman near Douglas and Johnson streets in 2019. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.

The man faces several recommended charges including two counts of assault, one count of assaulting a police officer, and one count of breach of a conditional sentence order.
