Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man on Saturday afternoon after he assaulted a man with Down’s Syndrome along Dallas Road.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday, April 16th, Patrol officers were called to Dallas Road near Camas Circle for a report of a fight. When officers arrived, they located a man with Down’s Syndrome who had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The man was being assisted by passersby.

The injured man reported he had been suddenly attacked by a man he did not know. The suspect fled when a passersby intervened to end the assault.

Patrol officers located the suspect nearby and arrested him for assault. When the officers took the suspect into custody the man made concerning statements, prompting the officers to transport him to hospital for a mental health assessment. The man was held in hospital under the Mental Health Act.

The man will face recommended charges of assault.
