Victoria, BC – Patrol officers took a man into custody on Saturday night after he allegedly pounded on a person’s door while wielding a steel bar and uttering threats.

Patrol officers were called to a multi-unit residential temporary housing building in the 1900-block of Douglas Street just before 8:45 p.m. Saturday for a 911 call reporting that a man was attempting to gain entry to a suite there. The caller reported that the man was striking the suite’s door with a steel bar and threatening the suite’s occupant. The man fled to another suite before Patrol officers arrived.

Patrol officers located the suspect in the other suite and knocked on the door. The man exited the suite and confronted officers. He refused to comply with officers’ demands. An officer discharged a less-lethal “bean bag” round, striking the man in the leg. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to cells.

The man was seen in cells by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics, but refused medical treatment. He was held in cells until processed and released on conditions pending a future court date.

The man faces recommended charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and failing to comply with a release order.

This incident remains under investigation.
