Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a Nanaimo man, suspected of committing multiple indecent exposures, early this morning after officers were able to identify him thanks to video provided by quick-thinking witnesses.

Patrol officers were initially called just after 6 p.m. on Monday, May 24th,  for a report of a naked man committing an indecent act outside an apartment building in the 1000-block of Pendergast Street. While the man had left the scene before officers arrived, they spoke with multiple witnesses to the incident. Several residents of building had observed the man, ensured they were physically safe, contacted the building caretaker to call police, and then recorded the man from a distance on their mobile phones. Using this video from these quick-thinking witnesses, officers were able to identify the man, who has distinctive tattoos.

Officers began searching for the man and the vehicle to which he is associated.

Just before 10 p.m. last night, officers were called to Beacon Hill Park, near the Dallas Road and Olympia Avenue intersection, for a report of a naked man performing an indecent act. Officers briefly observed the man at a distance and recognized him as the same man from the earlier incident. The man fled the area before additional officers were able to arrive.

Patrol officers continued their search and arrested the man after locating him just after 2 a.m. this morning.

The man was transported to cells, processed, and released on conditions pending a future court date.

These files remain under investigation.
