Victoria, BC – A man, believed to be armed and a danger to the public, is in custody after being located and arrested yesterday through the combined efforts of officers and staff with VicPD’s Patrol Division, Community Services Division (CSD), Strike Force (SF) and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), as well as through assistance from regional partners including Legislative Assembly Protective Services, Saanich Police Department, West Shore RCMP and Sidney/North Saanich RCMP.

Officers began searching for the man after a series of disturbing incidents over a 24-hour period between May 31st and June 1st . The man was involved in several files including an alleged road rage file in Saanich in which a woman was confronted by a man in a truck, a disturbance file at a downtown bank, and a mischief file where the man drove a truck on the lawn at the BC Legislature. No one was physically injured in these incidents.

The man was taken into custody by Patrol officers after the incident at the bank Monday afternoon, and transported to hospital for a mental health evaluation. He was released with conditions following that evaluation.

VicPD investigators began looking for the man yesterday morning after BC Legislative Assembly Protective Services reported that a man had driven a white Chevrolet Silverado Truck onto the Legislature lawn just after 7 a.m. Officers identified the vehicle and recognized the driver as being the subject of the other calls. As officers continued their investigation, they learned that the man had made concerning, threatening statements and was potentially in possession of several firearms.

While in the process of preparing a public notification about the man, just after 12 noon yesterday, officers located him in the 500-block of David Street. He was taken into custody by GVERT officers without incident. He remains in custody.

This file remains under investigation. The man faces numerous recommended charges including uttering threats and mischief.
