Victoria, BC – Investigators are asking witnesses who observed and intervened after a woman lit a series of fires in Beacon Hill Park on Sunday, and who have not yet spoken to officers, to come forward.

Patrol officers were called to Beacon Hill Park near Simcoe Street just after 5:50 p.m. on Sunday for a report that a woman was walking in the area using a small torch to light sections of grass on fire. Several people were reported to be following the woman and extinguishing the flames. The woman was later arrested in the bathroom of a suite in a multi-unit residential building that she broke into after being pepper-sprayed by a responding officer when she attempted to steal and flee in a vehicle.

While the woman faces recommended charges, our investigation remains active and ongoing.

If you witnessed someone lighting fires in the Beacon Hill Park area on Sunday, assisted in extinguishing these fires, or have information about any of these incidents and have yet to speak with investigators, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.
