Victoria, BC – Traffic is no longer disrupted in downtown Victoria as the occupation of the Johnson Street bridge has concluded.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. this afternoon protesters occupied the Johnson Street Bridge and impeded traffic in both directions. VicPD Traffic officers and Patrol officers attended the scene to protect everyone’s safety. Protesters advised officers that police, fire, and transit vehicles would be blocked from crossing the bridge.

Shortly after 6 p.m. negotiators deployed to the scene with the goal of reaching a safe and peaceful resolution to the incident. A short time later the protest group marched through downtown Victoria and concluded their event at Centennial Square. Our VicPD Traffic officers continued to close intersections during the march to minimize the risk of vehicle traffic.

Traffic is no longer disrupted in downtown Victoria.
