Victoria, BC – Detectives with VicPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU), working with members of VicPD’s Strike Force team, the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) and the Integrated Canine Service (ICS), arrested a man on Friday after an assault with an edged weapon.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday, January 21st, Patrol officers responded to the 300-block of Gorge Road East for a report that a man was in medical distress after being stabbed. Officers located the victim who was suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being assaulted with an edged weapon. BC Emergency Health Services paramedics transported the man to hospital.

MCU Detectives continued the investigation and learned that the assault occurred within a suite at a multi-unit residential building in the 200-block of Gorge Road East. Detectives, working with VicPD’s Strike Force team, identified a suspect and later located that man at a residence in the 800-block of Admirals road. Members of GVERT and ICS attended and arrested the suspect without further incident at approximately 11 p.m. that night.

The suspect was transported to VicPD cells where he was held for a bail hearing. He faces recommended charges of assault causing bodily harm and breach of a release order.

Investigators believe that this was a targeted incident and there is no wider risk to public safety.
