Victoria, BC – George Thurrott, a 56-year-old man, has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to a 2020 Victoria homicide.

On Monday, March 16th, 2020, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Patrol officers attended a multi-unit residential building in the 3000-block of Douglas Street for a report that a man was injured after being assaulted with a weapon. The man suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he remained in critical care, while detectives with VicPD’s Major Crime Unit continued the investigation. On Wednesday, March 25th, 2020, the victim succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) assumed conduct of this homicide investigation. On Friday, April 8th, VIIMCU detectives, working with the Toronto Police Service and Peel Regional Police, arrested George Thurrott in Mississauga, Ontario. The BC Prosecution Service has approved a charge of second-degree murder.

George Thurrott was transported back to Victoria and appeared before the courts on Monday, April 11th. He remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
