Victoria, BC – Major Crime Unit (MCU) investigators are asking for witnesses to come forward after a man was shot this morning. Two suspects are in custody.

Patrol officers were called to a multi-unit residential temporary housing facility in the 3000-block of Douglas Street at approximately 5:40 a.m. this morning for a report that a person had been shot.

Patrol officers arrived and discovered the victim being treated for a non-life-threatening, but potentially life-altering gunshot wound to a lower limb. Officers contained the area and evacuated nearby residents.

The man was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics. Patrol officers began to search for the suspects and officers with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) began to deploy to the area.

A short time later, Patrol officers identified two suspects  a short distance away. Given the risk of armed persons who had already shot someone in a well-populated location, Patrol officers flooded the area and arrested the suspects at gunpoint.

The suspects were transported to VicPD cells.

This incident remains under investigation. MCU investigators are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.
