Victoria, BC –  Major Crime Unit (MCU) detectives are investigating after a person was stabbed in the neck yesterday.

Patrol officers were called to the 1300-block of Hillside Avenue for multiple reports that a person was covered in blood and holding a bloody knife while standing in the road. Patrol officers arrived and located the victim, with what looked to be a potentially life-threatening neck wound, being attended to by witnesses who came to their aid. Officers assisted in providing aid to the victim until BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived and took over care. The victim was transported to hospital. Their injuries are now considered non-life-threatening.

Hillside Avenue was closed to traffic while officers secured the area, searched for the suspect and collected evidence.

Investigators recovered a weapon from the scene and learned that the victim appeared to have disarmed their attacker. The suspect, who is known to the victim, was arrested and transported to VicPD cells. The suspect was found to be in breach of a court-ordered condition prohibiting them from possessing knives. The suspect faces multiple recommended charges for assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and breach of a court-ordered condition. They were held for court.

This incident remains under investigation.
