Victoria, BC –Timothy Jones, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after failing to return to a community residential facility, was arrested after officers deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) this morning.

Timothy Jones, who has a series of criminal convictions including sexual offences, assault causing bodily harm, flight from police, and being unlawfully at large, was the subject of a wanted person alert on Tuesday.

Officers located Timothy Jones in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue just after 1:15 am. He initially gave officers a false name when they asked him to identify himself and then fled on foot when they moved to arrest him. Officers caught up with him at the corner of Vancouver and Johnson Street. He then armed himself with a piece of broken glass and refused to comply with officers’ directions. While armed with the glass he caused a non-life-threatening injury to himself.

Officers deployed OC spray, and when that was unsuccessful, deployed a CEW. The CEW deployment was successful and he was taken into custody without further incident.

BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived and transported Jones to hospital, as is required by policy any time a CEW is deployed. He was treated for his injury, medically cleared and then returned to VicPD cells to await transport to a regional correctional facility.
