Victoria, BC –  Major crime detectives have arrested suspect Michael King for murder after a victim died in hospital.

On March 6, patrol officers responded to a report of an assault at a residence in the 400-block of Chester Avenue. Attending officers found a 70 year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).

While inside the residence, officers noticed some potentially hazardous materials. Out of an abundance of caution, officers requested that the RCMP’s Clandestine Lab Enforcement And Response team (CLEAR) attend to ensure the residence was safe. A safety perimeter was established and roads in the area were closed to traffic. The CLEAR team attended and conducted testing to determine that it was safe to enter the building.

Later that day, Michael King was arrested for aggravated assault after attending a neighbouring police department.

On March 15, detectives learned that the victim had died in hospital as a result of injuries he sustained during the assault. Yesterday, detectives arrested Michael King for murder; he remains in custody. Further details about this investigation cannot be shared at this time as the matter is now before the courts.
